One weekend I decided to list down all the birds I saw and heard from the veranda of the cottage. This is my list from two mornings in April 2014.

Grass Owl flying from the field over the house early in the morning. Also flying over the grass in the afternoon.
Eurasian Tree Sparrow constantly chattering and perching on our roof and around the house.

Lots of action on the trees to the left.
Yellow-vented Bulbul
Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker
Striated Grassbird
Golden-bellied Gerygone
Philippine Bulbul! I’m really happy to see these birds. Unlike the more common Yellow-vented Bulbul, they areĀ more forest birds than garden birds. I’m hoping the bring in seeds from the forests to add to our tree species.
Philippine Magpie Robin, two of them! I wish more would come over!
Coppersmith Barbet
There was a time we had Scaly-breasted Munia, but I didn’t see them in April.

The ones that like to perch on the round pen:
Long-tailed Shrike
Pied Bushchat
Richard’s Pipit
Barn Swallow
White-breasted Woodswallow

Brahminy Kite, flying over the trees in the distance
Black-naped Oriole, in flocks moving from tree to tree.
Large-billed Crow, pestering the horses even.
Buff-banded Rail, they looked like a pair. I think they live in the clump of tall grass in front of the house. One went so close to the house that even Momo and Barkley saw them. Barkley was able to hold it together and birdwatch for a few minutes. Then he scared it away.
Philippine Nightjar, heard only.
Plain Bushen, heard only.
I suggest you plant a few varieties of ficus trees to attract more birds in your farm.
Thanks for the suggestion! We bought 21 ficus (balete) last April. We will be planting them soon. We’re still looking for more though. That’s all the person we bought from had. Do you know where we can find more?
